How to Edit a Screen Shot Using Paint

Editing a screen shot in Paint is very useful for your eHow article. You can easily show readers what you are doing with a screen shot. Screen shots can be easily edited in paint to draw arrows or lines to help draw attention to a specific area on the screen shot.

 

Instructions

 

Things You'll Need:


Computer
Something on the computer you want a picture of.


Step 1

 

Keyboard


 
Keyboard
Take a screen shot. Put your computer screen on the step you want to show in your article. Press Print Screen button on you keyboard. For Laptops you may have to press the fn button and prt sc button.

No need to worry about any personal information on the screen. We will edit the screen shot to only show exactly what you want to show the reader.


Step 2

 

Paint


 
Paint
Open Window's Paint. Go to Start. Click on Accessory. Click on Paint.

Open a New Screen
Click new.


Step 4

Paste your screen shot.
Click Edit, Paste or press CTRL V on your keyboard. Your screen shot will not be on the screen.

Square select tool
Click the button that looks like a square. See the picture for more information.


Step 6

Draw the square around what you want to keep.
Draw the square around the part of the screen shot you want to keep. To draw the square click on most most upper left part of the screen shot that you want to keep. While hold down the mouse button drag the square until you reach the bottom right of the screen shot part you want to keep.

Copy the selection
Go to Edit, Copy. Or you can press CTRL C

Open a New Picture File
Go to File New. You don't need to save the orginal unless you need it for later.

Paste your selection from the orginal screen shot.
Go to Edit, Paste. Or you can press CTRL V. You should now see the part of the screen shot you highligted with the square.


Step 10


Edit the picture the way you want now. You can press the paint brush and draw over the paint over the picture the way you would like. I have paint an arrow showing the paint button in the picture.

Simply hold your mouse over the buttons to see what each button does.


Step 11


If there is left over white blank space left. Click the on one of the select button, like the square button. Click on the white part of the picture. You will see dot on the edge of the picture. Drag the dot where you want the end of the picture to be.


Step 12


Save. After all the hard work you have done, don't forget to save.
